Our Isle of Wight groups are free, relaxed photography and arts sessions for young people aged 16–25, with sessions currently running in Newport and Shanklin.
Explore photography hands-on using Canon DSLR cameras, different lenses, lighting and creative setups, alongside zine-making, collage, mixed media, creative writing and more. There’s something different to try each session, with support from practising photographers and artists.
No experience or equipment needed. We provide everything, although you’re always welcome to bring your own camera.

Free creative photography and arts groups for young people.
Our Open Sessions are relaxed, welcoming spaces to explore photography, try new creative skills and meet other young people. Most sessions are for ages 16-25yrs.
Photography is at the heart of our sessions. Get hands-on with Canon DSLR cameras, different lenses, lighting and creative setups, supported by practising photographers and artists. We also explore zine-making, collage, mixed media, creative writing and plenty more, with something different to try from week to week.
No experience? No equipment? No problem.
You don’t need any photography or arts experience to take part, and we provide everything you need, including cameras, lighting equipment and art and craft materials. If you already have your own camera, you’re welcome to bring it along.
Whether you’re completely new to photography or already a bit of an art nerd, there’s space to experiment, learn new skills and build your creative confidence.
How Open Sessions Work
Our Open Sessions are free and designed to be flexible. We encourage coming regularly, but there’s no ongoing commitment if you need to miss a week or take a break. You can reserve a spot for upcoming sessions through Eventbrite, or let us know you’re coming via email/Whatsapp.
You can also opt into our weekly WhatsApp updates to find out what we’ll be exploring next, whether we’ll be indoors or heading out, and anything useful to know before you arrive.

There are regular opportunities to showcase work made at In Focus through exhibitions, galleries and our digital platforms, always with your permission.
